The 6th Annual East Beach Art Show is this Saturday, April 9th.The hours are from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and is located at 27th Bay St. and Hammock Lane in Norfolk's East Beach neighborhood.

The painting shown above is 30x22 mixed media on paper.Come on by the show on Saturday to see Synergy and several other new paintings.

I recently decided to revisit using Yupo as a painting surface. Yupo is interesting in that it is basically plastic made to receive paint.  It is like painting on glass in that it is completely non-absorbent.  The paint sits on the surface of the paper which makes layering a bit tricky.  It is essential to have the ratio of pigment and water just right.  If you want more information on this challenging material, you can find it here http://www.yupousa.com/paper/index.php.

I have been painting all winter in anticipation of Spring art shows.  Above is a new mixed media painting. The unframed size is 30x22.  It will be on display at the East Beach Art Show on April 19th.

These three paintings are 6x6 inch cradled wood panels.  The wood panels were coated in acrylic gesso and then painted in watercolor, gouache and watercolor crayons.  They have been sealed in a high gloss acrylic finish.  All three of these paintings are on display at Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center's gift shop

Mid-Atlantic Art Exhibition Opening Friday, April 4th

I am fortunate to have a painting in the Mid-Atlantic Art Exhibition that opens Friday, April 4, 2014 at d'Art Center in Norfolk, VA. The opening is from 6-9.  The work will be on display through May 18th. This show is a national juried show and is part of the 2014 Virginia Arts Festival.

My painting called Reaching was accepted.  This painting is acrylic on a heavily textured canvas and is 18x36.
