This show has been held for 42 years and this year will be a two day show versus the usual Saturday only show.
I have a number of new pieces that will be on display and would really enjoy a chance to speak with you. I look forward to seeing you there.
What happened to May and most of June? Where did they go? May was very busy - two outdoor art festivals and a group show at the Courthouse Galleries in Portsmouth, VA.
The show at the Courthouse Galleries is in connection with an art group that I belong to, the Elizabeth River Artists. The theme of this show is "Fresh Paint" and the paintings must be new and never shown before. I had paintings earmarked for this show that I had worked on this past winter and spring. Fortunately for me, I had more sales than I had anticipated so I had to paint more so that I had work for this show at the end of May.
On the first Saturday in June, the juror held a talk in the gallery. She did an excellent job and went through the entire show speaking on each piece. She made some wonderful comments on all three of my pieces and the winner in particular. Here is a picture of the juror with my painting.

My first show of the season is this Sunday, May 1st.
TIME: Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
PLACE: Merchant’s Square, Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg, Virginia
This will be the first time I have participated in the show and I would love to see you come out and see my new work. I have several new paintings that I will have on display.
This painting is called Shellbound. It is 10x20 and is the first I've painted on an Ampersand Cradeled panel http://www.ampersandart.com/. This is a really interesting product. It requires no framing, glass or mat. The natural wood cradle rests against the wall for a very unique and contemporary look that I feel works well with abstract art.
Shellbound is a combination of ink, acrylic, silver leaf and water color crayons. It is available for sale.
I heard a radio station describe themselves as "Audio Caffeine" and I thought Visual Caffeine would be a good name for a new painting of mine. This painting has a lot of layers and texture. It is 22x30, mixed watermedia. We all thought Spring was coming, but maybe that is an April Fool's joke. It sure doesn't feel like spring.
There will be a number of new painting added and I am working on updating my website now.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year. Prior to Christmas, I finished a couple of new paintings and started a few more. I will be posting them soon.
Many of you may know that I lost my 17 year old Yorkie this past April. I was ready to get a new dog and decided to go with a rescue. I found the most wonderful little BichonFrise/Maltese mix from VA Bichon Rescue in Suffolk, VA. His name is Winter and he is 1 year old.
